Baltimore City Public Schools

Baltimore City Public Schools has 200+ schools. We serve meals to over 82,000 children daily. The system participates in USDA, MSDE Fresh Fruits and Vegetable program and the DOD. We also purchase fresh, farm grown, produce from local farmers. Since the beginning of the 2008-09 school year we have purchased over 500,000 pieces of local fruit from peaches to apples. We have a central warehouse and they store and transport food to our schools. Each school has dry, refrigerated and limited freezer storage. We participate in the Universal Free Breakfast program and Maryland Meals for Achievement classroom breakfast program. We have also created a Grab and Go breakfast pack for our classroom breakfast program. We are currently in the process of opening up central kitchens throughout the city.
