Farm to School Teacher Workshop (Visit Website)
Fri April 9, 2010 to Fri April 9, 2010
Attention Gallatin County elementary school educators: we are offering two, half-day workshops for teachers on Friday, April 9th, 2010. The workshops will be offered free of charge and will provide 4 renewal credits per half-day workshop. They can be taken separately or together. Come grow with us!

Workshop #1 Where Does Your Food Come From? Integrating farm to school activities into your current lesson plans. Explore and practice how to easily integrate farm-to-school activities across the curriculum, into subjects such as science, math, art, history, nutrition and literature. Students get excited about and connected to their local food system as the result of learning how food decisions impact health, the environment and the economy. Farm-to-school activities can range from planting a seed to learning about cultures, history and nutrition. Taught by Montana Outdoor Science School April 9th, 2010, 8:00am – Noon, Emily Dickinson School Library

Workshop #2 Establishing and utilizing outdoor spaces as living laboratories. School gardens are sprouting up across the USA and in Montana! Locally, Irving Elementary School recently created a school garden space to use as a teaching tool and edible landscape. Emily Dickinson’s outdoor classroom is an integral part of the school’s curriculum. Come learn how to identify, plan and utilize your existing outdoor spaces to create fun year-long learning opportunities while enhancing your current lessons and curriculum. Taught by Learning by Nature. April 9th, 2010, 1:00pm – 5:00pm, Emily Dickinson School Library
