North Carolina Policies

North Carolina Food Policy Council
The North Carolina Department of Agriculture and the Consumer Services Commissioner formed the North Carolina Food Policy Council in August 2001. The North Carolina Food Policy Council (NCFPC) works to define and meet the needs of the hungry while seeking more opportunities for the state's small farmers. Members of the NCFPC include representatives from agriculture, private industry, hunger relief agencies, the legislature, farmers, and a number of state government agencies. The Farm to School Program is one of the four main projects that the NCFPC works on.

House Bill 1832: Farm to School Program/Funds
This bill will provide funding for a position within the NC Dept. of Ag that will be dedicated to farm to school administration and operation. In particular, this position would expand educational farm to school efforts while engaging more farmers and other stakeholders in the process. A progress report will be made annually to the Task Force on Childhood Obesity, the Joint Legislative Education Oversight Committee, the Joint Legislative Health Care Oversight Committee, the Chair of the House Committee on Agriculture, and the Chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Environment, and Natural Resources.
