National Farm to School Month
October is National Farm to School Month! Join us and thousands of schools, early care and education sites, farms, communities and organizations across the country as we celebrate food education, school gardens and lunch trays filled with healthy, local ingredients. Here are several easy ways to get involved:
- Get Involved: Explore our national calendar of Farm to School Month events to see how you can celebrate in your state. If you are hosting events for Farm to School Month, we encourage you to submit them to the calendar!

- Spread the Word: Shout out about farm to school and share what you’re doing for National Farm to School Month with the hashtags #F2SMonth and #farmtoschool on social media.
- Explore Resources: Check out our free resources for planning and promoting celebrations in your community, including our Farm to School Month Celebration Toolkit, customizable posters and bookmarks, stickers and more. This year, all of the Farm to School Month artwork on our posters, stickers, and bookmarks has been beautifully redesigned by artist Rachel Yumi Chung.
Creating Thriving Communities: Local Food in Every School
From early care through K-12
This year’s National Farm to School Month theme, Creating Thriving Communities: Local Food in Every School, celebrates the powerful, positive impact of local procurement in creating thriving communities. Procurement is the process schools and early care sites go through to source and purchase food for school meals. And when food is locally procured directly from the growers, fishers, and ranchers in their region, the results are delicious: healthier, fresher school meals that students genuinely enjoy! The benefits of local procurement go beyond the plate. It also opens up a vital market opportunity for small and mid-sized farmers, offering a lifeline at a time when many are working hard to stay afloat.
Of course, local procurement is not always simple. It’s often a complex, multi-step process that takes thoughtful planning and partnerships. It also calls for greater investment in the funding and people who make it all happen. And there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. Early care programs, for example, follow different requirements and purchasing models than K-12. Our dream is to see local food in every school, nationwide.
This Farm to School Month, we’re shining a spotlight on the school food procurement process, advocating for investment into funding streams and policies that support local procurement, and celebrating the champions who are leading this work.

Partner Meeting
Bringing together the farm to school movement
Every October during National Farm to School Month, we host a virtual Movement Meeting to bring the farm to school and ECE community together. This year, we are not hosting a Movement Meeting—instead, we are hosting an in-person Partner Meeting in Sacramento, in concert with the California Department of Food and Agriculture on October 13-15, 2026. Registration for our Partner Meeting is now live. Partners, we're excited to see you there!

Everyone can celebrate National Farm to School Month! National Farm to School Network has developed resources and activities to promote Farm to School Month in schools, early care and education settings, communities and media outlets.
Throughout October, we share stories and information on our blog about how farm to school is empowering children and their families to make informed food choices and contributing to vibrant communities.
