National Farm to School Network is leading the development of a new optional pathway that lets schools direct existing federal entitlement funds toward minimally processed, locally sourced food. It requires no new program and leverages existing funding, giving schools more flexibility to efficiently utilize their commodity entitlement allocations. We are collecting organizational sign-ons from across our movement to show Congress that there is broad, bipartisan support for this idea. We want to hear from food service professionals, farmers, food producers, parents, public health advocates, and everyone in between. The wider and more diverse our list of signers, the stronger our case. The deadline is Friday June 5, 2026.
ORGANIZATIONAL SIGN ON
Right now, Congress is considering its priorities for funding government programs in the next fiscal year (FY27), including the Patrick Leahy Farm to School Grant Program. USDA was recently able to award $15.6 million grants thanks to the previous annual allocations from Congress. However, the House Appropriations Committee just voted to allocate only $5m in additional funds for FY27, despite record demand for this grant program! The ball is now in the Senate’s court; please take to contact your Senator and urge them to fund the growing need for the Patrick Leahy Farm to School Grant Program.
